ARTS IN PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTITIONER | SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE RESEARCHER | CHANGE AGENT

Hi, I'm

I am a dedicated Doctor of Public Health student specializing in Behavioral Science and Health Education at Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Institute of Public Health. I completed my Master of Public Health at the University of Florida where I was actively involved as an executive board member of the Public Health Student Association and a participant in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Student Council. I founded the Public Health Plug, a UF student-led webinar series that equips public health students with key educational resources and career development tools, laying a strong foundation for their future careers.

Before transitioning into the public health field, I led impactful initiatives as a creative director and community mobilizer within the religious and non-profit sectors, focusing on domestic violence prevention and child safety advocacy. I spearheaded community resilience-building programs that integrated art to empower survivors of domestic violence in Houston, TX. My advocacy efforts were recognized with a Mayoral Proclamation from former Mayor Anisse Parker, declaring October 25 as “Chyna Wheatley Day” in honor of my contributions to community engagement.

My current research focuses on addressing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and developing strategies to mitigate their long-term effects on health and well-being. I am passionate about the intersection of visual arts and public health, and I aim to explore how creative approaches can be used to foster healing and resilience in communities affected by ACEs. As a trained visual artist, I believe in the transformative power of art to inspire positive change and improve the health of communities.

I am continually seeking opportunities to collaborate with like-minded professionals and organizations to advance public health initiatives that promote equity, advocacy, and resilience.
